If you lose a dog, cat or other animal:
Contact
1. The Police
2. Your local Dog Warden (if a dog)
3. The local pounds (again if a dog)
4. All the vets in your area http://www.etlist.co.uk/
5. As many internet sites as you can e.g. www.ukpetsearch.freeuk.com or www.dogpages.org.uk or www.catchat.org and others.
6. Your local press
7. Local Shops - ask if you can put up posters etc.
8. Local refuse collectors, street cleaners, postmen, taxi drivers and milkmen - all are regularly out and about the area and may have seen him/her.
9. All your local rescues
10. The local Highways or your Local Authority's Refuse Department (in case of a road traffic accident)
11. Visit your Local Authority's (LA) and neighbouring LA's web sites as many who still employ their own dog wardens now list found dogs along with their photographs.
Not necessarily in the above order but at least you will have done everything you possibly can. Your local authority will have the name, address and telephone number of the holding kennels and may know of other animal rescue organisations in your area. Its a good idea to visit them every day if possible - especially if they deal with very large numbers of strays.
Please remember to inform everyone if a lost animal is found or a found animal has been reunited with his/her family.
